If you are a music connoisseur with an ear for great sound, then this article is one of many especially for you.

Within any market there are a range of products from entry level, budget-driven products through to the top-of-the-range specialist products for the more sophisticated, no compromise-on-quality individual, where the end result is the only important factor.  Sounds Good specialize in custom installing the most exquisite, attention-to-detail sound-rich products to provide you with the ultimate sound experience.

One of the manufacturers known for their amazing, no-compromise approach to sound is Meridian Audio. Meridian have a reputation for superb build quality, outstanding products and the greatest attention to detail. They live and breathe sound and are constantly pushing the boundaries to remain at the cutting edge of new technology. They also manufacture all products in the UK.

With this in mind please allow me to introduce the Media Source 200 (Meridian MS200), Meridian’s baby hi-res audio player. If you are unfamiliar with hi-res audio, let me explain…

Hi-res audio files are considered to be better quality than a CD. Typically, the likes of iTunes offer “standard” mp3 as compressed files from 220kbps to 320 kbps. Hi-res audio files usually have a sampling frequency at 96kHz or 192kHz at 24-bt. The sampling frequency means the number of times samples are taken per second when the analogue sound waves are converted into digital. A CD has a sampling frequency of 16 bit 44.1kHZ. There is a noticeable jump in quality from 16 bit to 24 bit. In essence, hi-res audio files allow you to hear more of the original recording compared to CD or standard mp3.

Meridian Audio have recently launched their MQA technology which will soon allow access to even better quality listening. No doubt all of their devices will be compatible with this technology as it becomes available to the discerning music lover. Watch out for more information on this very soon.

The Meridian MS200 is really simple to use. If you wish to listen to a high quality recording, then you must invest in a amplifier and hi-grade speakers. Of course, these speakers provide the clarity, richness in sound and overall depth which allows you to hear the music as it was meant to be heard. To use a metaphor, using inferior speakers is the equivalent of placing a formula 1 engine in a standard family car. Music lovers already know this and generally the speakers are the first on the shopping list when deciding to upgrade their sound system. I would highly recommend using Meridian speakers along with any Meridian sound system.

With dimensions of only 80mm (3.15in) x 139mm (5.47in) x 34mm (1.34 in) and weighing in at just 223g this tiny hi-res audio player is fabulous when space is limited and yet quality matters.

Meridian Sooloos Control 15

The MS200 can be controlled via the Meridian Sooloos System but it is also compatible with iphone or ipad applications for wireless control. This wireless interface allows the MS200 to connect to your digital database to stream your music or digital radio from the comfort of your armchair, all controlled through your smart device.

If you are looking for a small and yet superb hi-res audio player then you should seriously look at Meridian Audio products. Their attention to detail and build quality are outstanding. The sound is amazing and allows you to enjoy so much more from your stored music if you download hi-res audio files. Expect the quality to surpass CD. In time, especially with the launch of MQA technology, you could almost close your eyes and believe you are in the studio with the musicians listening to the playback of their finished album. What a treat that will be!
